LEATHER CLEANING AND CARE

Leather is timeless, and a quality leather jacket can last a lifetime. Leather ages gracefully and can even increase in beauty. You should be able to enjoy your fine LAMARQUE garment for years to come by following a few simple guidelines.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY JACKET OR LEATHER GARMENT GETS WET?
Just let the item air dry naturally, don’t use direct heat as this can burn the leather. Don’t blow-dry leather, or put it on a radiator. Once it is dry, you can treat it with a special conditioner if needed, to restore luster and flexibility. If the item is suede, you may gently brush it with a terry-cloth towel or natural haired brush.

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY LEATHER ITEM?
A leather item should be stored in a moderate environment (not overly humid, and not overly dry). It should be stored out of direct sunlight as the sun may discolor the item over time. Jackets, dresses, tops or other garments should be stored on a sturdy wide hanger. Do not store in plastic bags as this can dry out the leather, the use of breathable garment bags are recommended for long-term storage.

HOW DO I CLEAN LEATHER?
We recommend taking your leather goods to a professional dry cleaner with experience in leather. Essential oils are removed during the cleaning process and can only be restored by professional leather cleaners. If you are using an at home leather cleaner or other solution to take out stains, always test the solution first on an inconspicuous part of the garment. Light colors may be difficult to clean and should be taken to a professional.

CAN I IRON LEATHER? HOW DO I REMOVE CREASES?
Creases and wrinkles in leather often “hang out” if you leave the garment hung on a good quality hanger for a period of time. For stiff leathers that won’t “hang out” or for stubborn wrinkles, we recommend taking the garment to a leather care professional.  If you do decide to use your iron, use it on the lowest setting, and use a cloth over the garment. Make sure to avoid overheating as it is possible to burn the leather, especially nappalan and suede.

HOW CAN I REPAIR MINOR TEARS?
We recommend taking the garment to a leather care professional for most damages to the skin of the garment. If however, a seam comes undone or an item needs to be hemmed etc (even minor tears) this can be done at home using a needle and thread or by applying rubber cement sparingly according to the instructions on the tube.

SHOULD I USE LEATHER CONDITIONERS AND SPRAYS?
A good leather conditioner contains fats and oils that will help moisturize the leather, keep it soft and can help restore its shine. Natural products and oils are usually best and can be found at most quality leather goods stores and shoe stores. Leather only needs to be conditioned occasionally, we recommend a seasonal application.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I STORE MY JACKET IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT?
Leather goods should not be stored in direct sunlight. The light will dry out the leather and may cause discoloration over time.
